What is your experience? How many events have you done?
I have been hired to DJ hundreds of events over the span of my career. Usually I will get booked for 1-2 weddings per weekend from April to October, and during the rest of the year I’ll do anywhere from 1-6 corporate functions, school dances, and other special events per month. On top of these “regular” gigs, I have DJ’d in many other contexts as well: nightclubs and bars, fundraisers, sports events… you name it!
Do you actually mix? Or you one of those DJs that just hits the ‘play’ button?
I can mix very well and do lots of super funky things with beats, loops and effects to make it more interesting! When you hire me you can rest assured that I am a legit DJ. This also means being creative - taking requests and incorporating them into the mix as and when needed.
How do I book you? What type of payment do you accept?
My booking system is all online to make it super easy:
1) You can check to see if the date is available
2) If the date is free you can then make up your quotation by choosing various options
3) Once happy with the options you will receive a full quotation by email
4) Simply click the BOOK NOW link and you will be presented with the Booking Form. Enter your email and today's date and submit.
5) Your event and date is now booked, pending booking fee payment, usually 25%.
6) You will receive your online account details where you can then log in to pay your booking fee. Once you’ve paid your booking fee, you will receive booking confirmation.
Of course, if this is too complicated for you, just call us on 07962 499933 and we will help you get the best option for your event.
Full payment for your event is due 30 days before the event. My preferred method of payment is PayPal using my online system. I can accept bank transfers and also accept debit/credit cards over the phone.
How far will you travel?
I am based in York, which is quite central to Yorkshire. I am willing to travel anywhere! If your event further away I usually charge travel costs of about £1 per mile.
How far ahead should I book you?
As soon as you know you're going to need a DJ! I typically start receiving wedding bookings a year-and-a-half in advance, and other bookings a few months to a year in advance. My repeat corporate customers and schools often book me for next year's event as soon as the current year's event is finished.
Do you take requests?
Of course! I always encourage you to use my ONLINE MUSIC PLAYLIST PLANNER so that gives me an indication of your favourite tunes, artists and genres. Using this helps me to get an idea of what you are looking for at your event. Ideally I would suggest a maximum of 40 tracks or artists on your list to ensure I can incorporate other requests and have a balanced event; but ultimately, how I select the music is up to you.
I will, of course, also play reasonable and fitting suggestions from your guests at the function to ensure they too can hear their favourite tunes. Also, don't forget that I am an experienced DJ who is fluent at “reading the crowd” so it’s always a good idea to leave some of the musical direction to me. After all… you’re paying for it!
Tell me about your music?
I have a huge digital music library containing songs in a wide variety of genres, and I update it on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis. I buy my music from online sources such as iTunes, CD Pool, Direct Music Service, Club Killers, DJ City, Beatport, and other professional DJ record pools. I am extremely flexible with what I play, and can mix pretty much anything you desire. As well as having an amazing selection of classics, I stay up-to-date by following all the top charts for rock, pop, urban, club, dance, country, rock, etc.
What kind of equipment do you use? Do you have back-up gear?
I only use up-to-date professional DJ, audio, and lighting equipment, and I do indeed have back-up equipment in case something goes wrong at your event. I mix on a Pioneer DDJ-1000. It's like a spaceship control centre!
If you need more information on my equipment before booking me, please ask!
Do you have a contract? Are you insured?
Absolutely. You will receive my contract terms prior to paying your booking fee. I also have £10,000,000 in liability insurance and I my equipment is safety tested. Although testing is not a legal requirement most venues will ask to see proof of testing.
When do you set up?
I typically show up 1-2 hours before the event is supposed to begin, depending on what needs to get done. My set-up does not take long and I can work round other suppliers, venue staff etc. If your event is close to York I will sometimes set up in the morning, and return in the evening for your event, if the venue allows it. If you need me to set up earlier and need me to stay all day that is also an option.
What happens if you get sick, or have some kind of emergency?
While I cannot 100% guarantee a replacement, I have a network of several other DJs who I would ask to step in for me at the same cost or less. Having said that, my contract stipulates that if I am unable to procure a replacement, my liability is limited exclusively to the return of any monies paid.
Can I choose what you wear to my wedding?
I am open to ideas, but I am always smart in my appearance and will always wear a shirt, trousers as a minimum. I don't wear polo shirts!
Can you MC my wedding for me?
I always recommend that my clients get someone who knows them well to take care of the MC duties, but if you're stuck, I would be honoured to be your MC.
I am confident and comfortable addressing groups of people. I have also been part of hundreds of weddings in my career, so I have an in-depth understanding of how to keep a timeline moving to ensure a successful event.
I found a DJ who charges a fraction of your cost! Can you match their price?
Would you ask your caterer to match the price of a McDonald’s Happy Meal?
